Extra track, tacky badge and a red flexidisc

We interrupt normal service on this blog to bring you stats for nerds. Ordinary readers of this blog should look away now – what follows is a load of gobbledegook about the Smiths.

If you’re still reading, what you see below is a comparison of the values of various Smiths records, taken from Record Collector over the years:

–         April 1988
–         Nov 1992
–         Jun 2005
–         Jan 2011

The 1992 and 2005 issues feature the top 100 collectibles, whereas the 1988 issue isn’t ordered as such and the 2011 one concentrates on commercially available live tracks.

I’ve listed the 2005 top 100, followed by the 1992 tracks that didn’t make it into the 2005 list. Finally, there are the 1998 and 2011 tracks that aren’t in the 1992 or 2005 lists. I’ve also linked the items to the magisterial Passions Just Like Mine website, where you can get more information than you can shake a stick at about each item.

It’s interesting to note how the value of certain items have changed over time. Oh, to have had the foresight in 1988 to pick up the top 3 items for £130, as opposed to £3700 these days!

  1. Your wife says:

Goodness. What a valuable use of time.

  2. becky says:

    Dear Steven

You may wish to know that johnny marr is on 6 music on Sunday at midday playing various records from his collection. While I can’t guarantee he will say how the second hand price of them may have waxed and waned over the years, there maybe something for you to enjoy.

Just fyi, I have just filled your wife full of cottage pie and we’re now watching a film about super intelligent sharks gone bad. I know how to treat a woman.

  3. Étudiente Francaise says:

…and in return for all treats, I’ve recounted my last French lesson story in which I learnt the phrase ‘j’en ai marre’.

I sense the initial stages of a new game here. Can u think of any foreign language / melancholic music synergies?
